Ukraine’s Parliament recommends announcing Crimea Tatar autonomy

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Decree on approving the recommendations of the Parliamentary Hearings on “the Strategy for Reintegration to Ukraine the Temporarily Occupied Territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol: Issues, Methods and Ways”.

The recommendations of the parliamentary hearings that took place on June 15, 2016, reported a need to recognize the Crimean Tatars, the Karaites and the Krimchaks indigenous peoples of Ukraine, to deprive Sevastopol its special status, to change the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by reforming it the Crimea-Tatars Autonomous Republic.

In addition, the Verkhovna Rada is recommended to pass a law on the State Strategy of Deoccupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territory of Crimea.
