The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea that is part of the Prosecutor’s General Office of Ukraine has undertaken legal proceedings against the representatives from the annexed Crimea — deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

According to the Press Service of the Office the representatives of the United Russia party Ruslan Balbek, Mikhail Sheremet, Natalia Poklonskaya, Konstantin Bakharev, Svetlana Savchenko, Andrey Kozenko and Dmitry Belik were elected deputies of the State Duma in Crimea.

“Such actions are indicative of an attempt to legitimize the annexation of the Crimean peninsula by incorporating the illegally elected deputies from the region into the Russian Parliament, and actually are the continuation of activities aimed at violation of the sovereignty of Ukraine”, said the Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation is carried out under the article “Treason Against the State”. The article stipulates 12 to 15 years of imprisonment.
