Voting in the Regional Council of Liguria about Crimea is merely a suggestion, and the Italian Government does not have to bend an ear to this “act”. This was stated by the Ambassador of Italy in Ukraine Fabrizio Romano.
He recalled that a similar situation was in the Veneto region of Italy, but the regional councils do not have competence in foreign policy at all.
Romano assured that Italy is one of the most predictable partners of Ukraine in the EU. The Ambassador recalled that Italy was one of the main supporters of the abolishment of the visa regime for Ukrainians.
On June 29 the Regional Council of Liguria passed a resolution which called for a review of relations between the EU and Russia, lifting the anti-Russian sanctions and urged the Italian Government to condemn the policy of the European Union regarding the non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea.
