The expert explained what objective the Kremlin pursued with the provocation in Crimea

Russia has accused Ukraine of terrorism in the annexed Crimea, guided by a whole set of objectives. This opinion was expressed by Grigory Perepelitsa, conflict resolution specialist, Doctor of Political Sciences.

“This provocation has several objectives. The first is justification in the eye of Crimeans of the strengthening repressive activities on the peninsula. Second, the Kremlin once again wants to show Russians that “junta” still exists in Ukraine, and it is dangerous. Third, it is an attempt to accuse Ukraine of wrecking the Minsk Accords and hurt Ukraine’s image. Of course, Crimea is outside of the Minsk process. But it is borne in mind that the situation is considered as a whole. Creating a “Ukraine-provocateur image” is of benefit to the Kremlin,” said Perepelitsa.

According to him, the most dangerous and highly probable objective of Moscow is to create the ground for further aggression in the southern part of Ukraine.

As we have informed, the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia said about prevention of terrorist acts in Crimea, allegedly organized by the Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian force authorities consider the statement provocation and an element of the hybrid war against Ukraine.
