Scammers set up fake Zara shops in Crimea

The Spanish company Inditex, owner of the large chains of Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and Pull and Bear clothing stores, made a statement about fraudulent practice.

On Inditex’s behalf another company offers investors to open stores under the Zara City brand. One of those stores is opened in Sevastopol (Crimea). The press-service of Inditex said that the Zara Zara and the Zara City brands were not part of the Inditex Group.

“The company in question leads a fraudulent business and illegally uses the name and symbols of our brand, selling the franchise and thus compromising our rights to the Zara brand,” added Inditex.

A manager of Bass-Invest Group, which represents Zara City, said that the brand was developing on the territory of Russia in two formats. Inditex develops its own network in cities and the Zara City brand is created to develop an affiliate network in small cities and towns of Russia and CIS countries. About 10 stores under the Zara City brand are opened in Crimea, Kazakhstan and the Caucasus area. He argues that the clothes, selling by the company, are the official products of Zara.

However, Inditex insists that its clothes are only sold through its own distributing facilities.

Inditex reports that it has taken legal action to protect the brand.
