Russian oppositional TV channel is banned in Ukraine due to the map of Crimea

The National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting has banned Russian oppositional TV channel Rain for Ukrainian law violation.

The channel’s broadcasting on the territory of Ukraine is banned due to an advertising prohibited by Ukrainian law for foreign TV channels.

According to member of the National Council Sergiy Kostynsky, the TV channel also has violated Ukrainian law by depicting Crimea as Russian territory.

Director General of the Rain TV channel Natalia Sindeeva states the channel is guided by Russian law when depicting maps of Russia. “In accordance with article 65 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Crimea is a territorial entity of the Russian Federation,” explained the Director General.

Earlier Ukraine prohibited or restricted the broadcasting of more than 60 Russian TV channels.
