Russian military exercises have passed into an active phase in Crimea

The active phase of the strategic command-staff exercises of Russia’s armed forces “Caucasus-2016” has started in Crimea.

This is reported by the Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. According to the information of the Intelligence, command headquarters and operational formations deployed in the landfills of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation and the occupied Crimea, are in full combat readiness.

The force grouping of the Southern Military District was bolstered by 11.2 thousand of troops from the Western, Central, Eastern Military Districts and airborne units.

According to the intelligence information, the air and space forces of Russia are ready to provide aviation support to land and sea actions. The Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla squadrons left home bases and began moving to the Opuk sea range in Crimea and the north-western part of the Caspian Sea.

The command-staff exercise of the First (Donetsk) and the Second (Lugansk) Army Corps of the Central territorial troops of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation began at the same time.
