The Federal Security Service (FSB) tries to deprive Russian lawyer Nikolay Polozov of his status Vice-Chairman of the Crimean Tatar people Mejlis Ilmi Umerov’s defender.
“The FSB investigators want to interrogate me as a witness, depriving of the procedural status of defender,” wrote Polozov in Facebook.
The lawyer takes this as an illegal attempt to deprive Umerov of defense and as a fact of oppression by the FSB.
“All the information about Umerov is strictly confidential, because it was received while providing him with legal aid. The Prosecutor’s Office and the FSB know this very well. But that is just an excuse. The main objective of the FSB and the Prosecutor’s Office is to intimidate me, depriving of the opportunity to defend human rights in Crimea,” said Polozov.
He calls an attempt of the Investigative Committee to launch a criminal charge against him another one element of intimidation. A pre-investigation check of the lawyer’s activity takes place now.
