The head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Bastrykin has published an article in the “Kommersant” magazine in which he proposes tightening measures “on the counter extremism struggle”.
There are increasing pressure on public organizations and censorship tightening in the Internet among the measures proposed by Bastrykinym.
Moreover, Bastrykin offers to criminalize the denial of the results of the Crimean “referendum” on joining Russia. “This Act of the legal expression of the will of the Crimeans has become an integral part of the Russian constitutionalism. Carving out a place in the system hierarchy of value orientations of the Russian State and society, certainly this Act needs a special legal protection, including criminal legislation. Consequently, it appears necessary to supplement the Federal laws “On the counteracting extremist activities” with such a manifestation of extremism, as a denial of the results of the referendum,” said the head of the Committee.
