A delegation of French parliamentarians, led by Thierry Mariani, intends to visit Crimea and Sevastopol on the day of the Russian Navy, which is celebrated on the last Sunday of July.
The Chairman of the State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Leonid Slutsky has told about this at a press conference.
“We are preparing the next visit of a representative delegation of French deputies and senators on the Navy Day in Sevastopol. Again the delegation will be led by a friend of Russia Thierry Mariani,” said Slutsky.
He recalled that it was Mariani whose efforts resulted the National Assembly, and later the French Senate resolutions “which clearly stated on the inadmissibility of the anti-Russian sanctions throughout Europe.”
Last summer a group of French deputies and senators led by Mariani visited Crimea, contrary to the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France. It was the first visit of Western European parliamentarians after the Russian annexation of the peninsula. The visit aroused indignation in the West, and Ukraine declared all the members of the delegation persona non grata.
