A Catholic priest started a single picket near the administration building in Simferopol with the requirement to allot an area for a church.
The Rector of the Koimesis of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fr. Daniel Myslentsev was holding a crucifix and a sheet labeled “Catholics are not Martians, but natives of Simferopol.”
The issue to allot an area for a Catholic Church in Simferopol was worked out neither before nor after the Russian annexation of the peninsula.
“Two months ago I had personally met with representatives of the local and republican authorities. The last meeting with the head of Simferopol has brought hope that “the issue will be settled in one week.” Unfortunately, the city authorities have done nothing either in a week or in a month later,” told the priest.
According to him, his parishioners were going to arrange a rally at the administration, seeing that some commercial organizations and other denominations have no obstacles to build even in park areas.
The Catholic parish was registered in Simferopol in 1996 year. A year later a private house was purchased and transformed in Chapel, which could hardly accommodate all the believers.
