Putin will supply Crimea with electricity from a safe distance

The Press-Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov has informed journalists that the Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a teleconference from Sochi on the energy supply of Crimea.

“The President’s teleconference will focus on the energy supply of Crimea”, said Peskov.

According to the Russian authorities, the fourth new line of the energy bridge that will unite the energy systems of Russia and the annexed Crimea is currently preparing for commissioning. Late last month Putin said that it would be launched in early May. Then the President explained that the line should have been started earlier, ahead of time, but the work schedule was a little shifted due to the bad weather conditions in the area.

The launch of the first line of the energy bridge from the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation to Crimea took place on December 2, 2015 and the second line was put into operation on December 15 and the energy bridge throughput has doubled. The third line was launched on April 14, 2016 to eliminate power shortage on the peninsula.

The fourth line will allow a total supply of 800 Mw from the Russian energy system that will fully cover the needs of Crimea in electricity in the summer.
