Lawyer Alexander Popkov says that Gennady Afanasyev and Yury Soloshenko, convicted in Russia, have petitioned the Russian President for pardon.
“In Moscow the Russian representatives insistently recommended my client to file a petition for pardon and he filed. He petitioned without confession,” said Popkov — Afanasyev’s defender.
According to the lawyer, Afanasyev’s petition the President for pardon was needed “in order to simplify the procedure of transferring him to Ukraine”.
Earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said about likely early release of Afanasyev and Soloshenko.
