The Chairman of the State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Leonid Slutsky has informed journalists that one French Senator refuses to visit Crimea on a delegation of parliamentarians in late July this year.
He noted that “the delegation of 11 French parliamentarians led by Deputy of the National Assembly, former Minister for transport of France Thierry Mariani would again, a year later, visit Crimea”.
According to him, the visit will take place from the 29th to 31st of July.
“Primarily the delegation was planned to consist of 12 people, but at the last moment, one of the Senators refused to participate due to the family commitments,” said Slutsky.
Last summer a group of French deputies and senators led by Mariani visited Crimea, contrary to the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France. It was the first visit of Western European parliamentarians after the Russian annexation of the peninsula. The visit aroused indignation in the West, and Ukraine declared all the members of the delegation persona non grata.
