Home Islamic religious rituals may be prohibited in the annexed Crimea.

“Crimean imams were given to understand that traditional funeral ceremonies, held at home, would be outside the law,” said the Mufti of the spiritual administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Umma” Said Ismagilov.

“Such gatherings, where they read the Quran and take prayers for deceased, were not forbidden even in the Soviet times. But modern Russia is even aggressing religiousness at the mundane level. Already, we will not be able to pray for parents along with other relatives even at home,” he added.

According to the Crimean Tatar newspaper Avdet, the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has preventively conversed with local imams in the Leninsky district of Crimea. The clergy was warned that all the traditional Muslim prayers would be considered illegal without registration of all the religious communities. Even home prayers will be prohibited.
