The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine claimed that Russian troops were unable to carry out exercises in the annexed Crimea due to the landing ships technical malfunction.

“It has been determined that the Russian Black Sea Fleet forces had plans to land the sea-borne troops near the Cape of Opuk within the Black Sea Fleet tactical exercises. They have failed to realize due to the technical problems with the large landing ships “Azov” and “Yamal”. An artillery missile jamming has occurred on one of the ships and a landing ramp hydraulic cylinder failure on the other,” said the Ukrainian Military Department.

The Defense Ministry of Ukraine states the “technical desuetude of the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the new weaponry delay due to the economic difficulties, the ships repair quality reduction due to the lack of the specific spare parts”. The Ministry associates the problems with the end of the military and technical cooperation between Ukraine and Russia.
