Head Deputy of the Mejlis charged in Crimea

Today the Chairman Deputy of the Crimean Tatar people Mejlis Ilmi Umerov is charged after questioning in the Crimean Office of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

“Ilmi Umerov was charged as accused person but he refused to testify. That’s all for a while. We received the decision and will act according to the situation,” said lawyer Emil Kurbedinov.

Umerov’s house was searched and he gave the recognizance not to leave to the investigator of the Crimean Office of the FSB of Russia on May 12. The Crimean Prosecutor’s Office officially announced the initiation of criminal proceedings against Umerov for “separatism” in connection with his public negation of the Russian status of Crimea.
