Russians’ popularity of the resorts in the annexed Crimea directly depends on the frequency of references to the peninsula in the Russian mass media. Such opinion was expressed by the Director of external communications of Aviаsаlеs.ru Janis Dzenis.
“The popularity of Crimea is the only merit of haw frequently the word “Crimea” is broadcasted by different media. In general, there is no other reason to go there. Globally it is hard to imagine that the Crimean infrastructure is ready to accept such a volume of tourists and we have noticed that the media put the wind in one or another direction,” said Dzenis.
The Russian expert gave an example when tourists became interested in Iceland after the football championship. “Say, the number of queries for tickets to Reykjavik has increased 30% after Iceland’s participation and universal admiration of Iceland during the recent Championship. So when all TV channels in Russia are constantly broadcasting about Crimea as the best place to visit in the summer, it’s obvious that people fall under this influence and visit,” said Dzenis.
