The constant military build-up of the Russian Federation on the territory of Crimea provokes NATO forces to respond, so the tension in the region will grow. This opinion has been expressed by the Deputy Director of the Ukrainian center for army, conversion and disarmament research Mykhailo Samus.
“The tension will escalate and Crimeans must really understand that this conflict can end not with a bang but with a whimper. From the very first day the whole situation leads to the fact that Crimeans become hostages of the short-sighted policy of the Russian Federation,” he said.
Russian military columnist Alexander Goltz predicts the escalation of “military tensions” around Crimea too.
“NATO’s deployment in the Black Sea of long-range weapons maybe long-range cruise missiles, which will be aimed at air defense facilities is serious, and, let’s call a pikestaff a pikestaff, it makes Crimea a target,” he said.
