Crimean Mufti is accused of collaborating with Russian enforcers

Crimean Tatar activist Enver Sherfiev says Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of Crimea and Sevastopol (SAMCS) Emirali Ablaev collaborates with Russian law enforcers.

“According to our information, the SAMCS’ representatives help to search Crimean Muslims’ houses and to arrest activists. Despite the fact Emirali Ablaev stated in March 2014 that he would see that no harm came to any of Crimean Tatars, now he gives rise to the accusations of terrorism and extremism against them,” said Sherfiev.

According to the public person, a large-scale campaign has been launched against dissents with the assistance of the SAMCS in Crimea.

“Enforcers searched civic activist Seyran Saliev’s house and then arrested the activist in Bakhchisaray on January 26, 2016. The same day the FSB arrested lawyer Emile Kurbedinov. I believe that with such measures the Crimean authorities want to intimidate the active part of Crimean Muslims. Moreover, enforcers bring an unrelenting pressure on lawyers. This is an obvious persecution for dissidence,” commented Sherfiev.
