Free Ukrainian politically prisoner Gennady Afanasyev is going to stay in Kiev but not to come back to Crimea.
This was stated by his mother Olga Afanasyeva.
She noted that there were other Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.
“We have not yet realized what happened. We feel immeasurable enjoyment and happiness, but we do not understand that everything is over. Indeed not everything is over, while many political hostages remain in Russia. As for Gennady he will fight together with Nadiya Savchenko for the political prisoners. My son will not return to Crimea but he will stay in Kiev,” said Afanasyeva.
Also she commented her son’s state of health. “Gennady was operationally withdrawn all analysis and an ultrasound investigation was made. As you understand, people do not leave prisons absolutely healthy,” stated Afanasyeva.
Afanasyeva told what she was speaking with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko about. “We discussed that Ukraine had to have such people, which would bet everything and would fight for their country. He supported us. After we thanked each other,” she noted.
Afanasyev was detained together with the other three pro-Ukrainian activists Oleg Sentsov, Olexandr Kolchenko and Oleksij Chirnij in Crimea in May 2014. Russian court sentenced them to different periods of imprisonment on the false charge of preparation for terrorist acts.
On June 14, 2016 Gennady Afanasyev and Yuri Soloshenko were exchanged for two citizens of Ukraine, suspected of separatism and high treason. The question is about the two Odessa residents Yelena Glishchinskaya and Vitalij Didenko, involved in creation of the so-called “People’s Rada of Bessarabia”.
