220 thousand tons of grains were exported from Crimea

220 thousand tons of wheat and barley of harvest 2016 were exported from Crimea to African and Middle East countries.

This was announced by Head of the Crimean Office of Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia’s state veterinary and phytosanitary service) Andrey Drygin.

According to the Service, 1.4 million tons of grains were totally harvested in Crimea in 2016.

“The major part of the harvest is exported. This year Rosselkhoznadzor formalized 220 thousand tons of exported grains,” said Drygin.

The head of the Service did not specify what countries were the recipients of the Crimean grain, but hinted at the directions of delivery. “The grains were sent to African and Middle East countries,” he said.

In addition to wheat and barley, sunflower and industrial crops (rape, coriander etc.) are going to be exported too.

As a reminder, the annexed Crimean peninsula is under the EU sanctions.
